AllTrailsHoliday Gear Countdown reviewed the Spinner Backpack, and here’s what they said:

“It may not be designed exclusively for the outdoors, but Green Guru’s Spinner is just plain cool. The pack is made from a combination of recycled mountain bike tubes and recycled PETE plastic (think water bottles), and features most of the functionality you’ll ever need: two large, separate compartments (one with an integrated laptop sleeve), elastic pockets on each side and an interior hanger for water bladders. It might also make you more popular.”

The Spinner Backpack is made from upcycled tubes and recycled materials.

Thanks for reviewing our Spinner Backpack, AllTrails!

The Interbike Outdoor Demo will be held Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 17 and 18 at Bootleg Canyon in Boulder City, Nevada. Attendees can enjoy great riding through Bootleg Canyon and attend a number of events, from Tour de Lake Mead to the Bootleg Canyon Challenge.

Outdoor Retail Summer Market Show Update

Our 6th Summer Market Outdoor Retailer was amazing!  We got to meet new people from all over and got to check out new products. We are excited that we’re growing globally and we’re always excited to introduce new product at the show! Outdoor Retailer always been a great opportunity to learn more in the industry and great exposure for Green Guru.

Here is a sneak peak of our Reflective Pins and our Tablet Sling case coming out in 2013 that we got to show off!

We had our Big Shot Bike power the Sailrite Sewing Machine which attendees loved to watch as we made little projects on site. A big thanks to local companies that donated rope and bike tubes to us while we were at the show. Our new booth design was a hit and was definitely an eye catcher.

Now we’re back home and getting ready for more shows and events and looking forward to the Outdoor Retailer Winter Market!

Green Guru Cruises Salt Lake City

On August 3rd, we gathered at the Park n Pedal Booth at Outdoor Retailer in Salt Lake City.  Soon, we were led by Naresh and our Green Guru Music bike through downtown. We had the music bumpin’, our bells ringing and over a 100 people cruisin’ ! We rode  around the Salt Palace, an outdoor mall and through the local neighborhoods.

We made our way to the Chow Truck for a quick bite to eat and then were greeted by Body Armor Sports Drink in Liberty Park.  With a best bike award, push-up and head stand challenges, we gave out awesome gear from all of our sponsors. Throughout the ride, we had endless dance moves from dancin’ in the park, a cruiser surfing on the back of a Yuba to bystanders grooving while we waited at stop lights.

As the sun went down, we loaded up our bikes with spoke lights from Nite Ize and made our way back to the Salt Palace. As we returned, we were psyched to have made new friends and ride with old ones.

Thank you to everyone that rode with us that night and to all the great gear that was donated from Polar Bottle, Endurance Conspiracy, Five Ten, Petzl, Osprey, Stanley, Honey Stinger, Momentum Magazine, Cleverhood and Nite Ize. Also to Dahon, Electra and Burley for letting us use your bikes and trailer.  If you’re in Salt Lake next year, come along for the ride!

Today is America’s birthday – the day when the United States officially declared its independence. Instead of buying an American flag this Fourth of July (which is probably made in China), spend your money on an American-made product that you can feel truly patriotic about. Products that are made in the USA decrease our country’s reliance on foreign goods, help stimulate our economy, create jobs and help ensure fair labor regulations. The less dependent we are on foreign countries for essential items such as food and clothes, the more we can celebrate our independence, while displaying our American pride.

This year on the July 4th holiday, celebrate the great outdoors and demonstrate your patriotism through your buying behavior. All of our Green Guru products are manufactured in the United States – so you can stimulate our national economy and increase our GDP by purchasing high-quality, versatile gear that you can use year-round. Our Spinner Backpack offers a multitude of uses, from carrying your gear for that holiday mountain bike ride, to a leisurely stroll around the city. Stash your credit cards, cash and ID in an eco-friendly wallet and head out to barbeque with friends and family.

At Green Guru, we are proud to partner with retailers Strictly USA and Made in Forever USA, which sell only 100 percent “Made in the USA” products. Purchase American-made products and help bring jobs back to the United States and maintain a strong economy.

Mission: Accomplished! We’re pleased to announce that we received more than 250 votes for the CHASE/Living Social Small Business competition in just two weeks. We’re humbled and grateful for your overwhelming support in the first round of this contest.

Green Guru is among thousands of other small business being judged by a panel, and we’ll know by Sept. 15 if we’re one of the finalists chosen to receive $250,000  so please keep those fingers crossed!

A PHOTO

Green Guru is participating in a small business competition, in the hopes of winning a $250,000 grant from CHASE/Living Social. We need 250 votes by Saturday, June 30, 2012 to be considered for the grant. As of Wednesday, we’re up to 208 votes – so we need your help. Please visit www.missionsmallbusiness.com and search for Green Guru Gear out of Boulder, Colo. Our efforts will then be judged by a panel of business experts.

This grant money would allow us to grow our recycling program to a national level – at nearly every bike shop, climbing gym and surf/dive shop. The $250,000 would enable Green Guru to invest in equipment that would allow us to more efficiently collect waste materials, resulting in a significant increase of waste that is diverted from landfills.

The CHASE/Living Social Small Business grant would also allow us to invest in additional sales staff that would help create a greater demand for our products, and ultimately allow more waste materials to be “upcycled.” Additional funding could help us build relationships with other partners, and expand our road tour/events to collaborate with shops and individuals first-hand to recycle waste streams.

Imagine what we could accomplish with a $250,000 grant? It would be amazing to see the positive impacts we could, and will create.

You may vote for multiple applicants, so even if you have supported another small business, please cast your vote for us – and then tell a friend!

Thanks again for the amazing review!

Upcycle Project | Do it yourself recycling                                                      Homemade stationary

We love our trailblazing adventures and like most we need a map to help make the most of our trip.  From mountain biking, skiing, hiking, and even just visiting a new town we usually grab a map.  But what to do with the map once you leave that new fun place? Saving them is nice but they can get out of date and take up space.  So I decided they needed a new purpose, a homemade stationary! Great for if you want to send letters home from where you are, to show people where you were, or to just give some flare.

To get started all you will need is an old envelope the size you want to make yours, scissors, a pen, and a glue stick.  Take the recycled envelope you want to use and gently pull it apart at the seams, they are usually just glued, be gentle.  Simply lay out the map you want to use on the floor and look around for the best section you want to include as part of your envelope (Creative Bonus: you can pick spots that you were and when you are done make “I was here” notes) and lay down the old envelope template on top of the map and push it down flat against the map while you trace the outline onto the map.  Make sure to do dark lines; I suggest a fine tip marker because it can be hard to see on the map later.  Lift the template and just snip away, try to cut just a little inside the lines so they do not show on the final envelope.  Using the old envelope as a guide check out where the three folds were glued together to make the pocket.  Using your magic wand (AKA glue stick) place the glue where it will over lap, make sure not to use too much, and press down.  There you have it! Your very own homemade envelope, you know the mailman will be jealous.

BONUS CRAFT: Letter Insert

If you want to take it a step further you can make the letter insert for inside your envelope.  I used an old paper bag, but any blank scrap paper or piece of packaging will do.  Just trace out the closed envelope size and cut it to be a little smaller to fit inside. Now you are really getting green!

Supplies:                                                                                                                   -Old Map                                                                                                            -Scissors                                                                                                            -Glue Stick                                                                                                          -Pen

Gear Level: 3                                                                                                        Time: 20 minutes

Our Cruiser Boutique inside the Green Guru Warehouse

Yuba Bikes

If you have been to the shop then you know that we have tons of neat merchandise to style you out for your favorite sport from our amazing bags to a custom bike.  At the Green Guru Shop we feature Yuba bikes to meet your biking needs, we have our partner Ryan Balciar to thank for bringing these bikes into our world so we can bring them into yours.  Ryan has this own Yuba and loves it,

By far my favorite use is hauling around the love of my life, although I know that she would rather be on her own bike and is just sitting back there looking pretty to make me happy.  We also have a custom stereo system that we attach for some of the cruiser rides and this combines two of my favorite things.  We have a lot of snow mixed with sunny days and cold nights, so there tends to be a lot of ice in the winter.  This is one of the times that having a Yuba is advantageous, as it seems far more stable on slippery terrain.

To say the least we love bike season so we can gather our favorite friends and make some new ones on the weekly bike ride!
