Here is a copy of a great article we were recently in Bicycle Industry and Retailer News:

MINNEAPOLIS, MN (BRAIN) — Bike Fixtation partnered with Green Guru to provide simple and cost effective inner tube recycling services for bike rooms, repair kiosks and other public use bicycle repair stations.

Bike Fixtation will collect, sort, and send the used inner tubes collected in these boxes to Green Guru, who will then clean the inner tubes and fashion them into useful cycling and outdoor products.

“Bike Fixtation is used to rescuing cyclists with a flat tube, now we can rescue that flat tube from the dumpster,” says Chad DeBaker, Bike Fixtation’s president and one the company founders. “Both our company and Green Guru are built on a foundation of sustainability and this partnership was a natural fit,” he added.

Green Guru is based in Boulder, Colorado, and designs, manufactures, and sells durable eco-friendly luggage bags, bike accessory, and lifestyle products from reclaimed materials including inner tubes.

The tube-recycling program is implemented at Bike Fixtation’s existing bicycle repair kiosks in the Uptown Transit Station and Lake Street/Midtown LRT Station in Minneapolis. Secure tube recycling boxes are now available to all customers and the public at large. For more information visit bikefixtation.com, or call (612) 568-3498.

Here is a Denver 9 News TV segment from a few days ago where the Velo Swap director, Reese Brown, talks about all the great products at the event and shares a bit about Green Guru Gear and our bike tube recycling program.

We at the show we were able to divert over 100lbs of bike tubes. Thanks again for all those that brought their old tubes. We will be doing it yearly, so if you forgot, remember next Velo Swap.

What:

Recycling Stations to collect bike tubes, wetsuits, climbing ropes, event banners and more that would otherwise go to the landfill are collected in our easy to set up stations that we help manage.

How:

These stations are at many local businesses and bike shops around the front range.  To find a station near you visit our website. http://www.greengurugear.com/recycling.html

People simply drop off their unwated or unusable items and we are able to pick them up and upcycle them into usable durable products.

The Facts:

In 2011 Green Guru turned 4,450 pounds of bicycle tubes into stylish gear.

The Green Guru Bicycle Tube Recycling Program has been collecting and upcycling since 2005 and is continuing to grow at a hungry pace because an avid bicyclist can go through an average of 2-3 tubes per year.

Check out this great review we got in URBAN VELO! Don’t worry we have removed the zipper pull and replaced with a silent piece of cord:) Also not mentioned in the article is that you can even fit a spare tube and a cold beverage if you like. The wet suit neoprene insulates your refreshment as well as shock absorbs that rough ride. No guarantee on fizz though!
